I recently recorded another wonderful conversation with Frieder Kühne for the 100th episode of his excellent Tinnitus Relief & Habituation Podcast. Frieder is a fellow tinnitus coach who resides in Germany and is the founder of Outring Tinnitus and Mytinnitus.club. We have become good friends over the years and have some exciting collaborations planned for 2025. (More on this coming soon!)
We had a great discussion covering so many helpful strategies, techniques, and tools for tinnitus patients at every level of the habituation process.
(The interview starts at 8:40).
In the podcast, we discuss many topics including:

- The untold story of how I habituated so quickly (in less than 2 months) with the help of an altered state of consciousness called the trance state
- Achieving the deepest possible state of relaxation
- The similarities between tinnitus and phobias
- Relaxation-enhanced exposure therapy for tinnitus
- The difficult psychological challenges patients face due to the nonlinear nature of habitation
- Why it feels like you are back at square 1 during difficult tinnitus moments
- Why difficult days are hard even after you have made a lot of progress
- How to accurately measure progress with habituation
- Negative vs positive tinnitus spikes
- The importance of taking positive coping actions.
- Why online tinnitus forums can reinforce negative patterns and only give a tiny glimpse of a person’s experience
- The importance of committing to a habituation protocol
- The hidden value of tinnitus spikes on the habituation journey
- Why we both believe that every tinnitus patient is capable of habituation
