Today, I’m excited to share another hope-filled success story – and for you to meet Jeremy.
Jeremy had lived with mild tinnitus for years, but experienced a severe relapse that quickly turned his life into a living nightmare.
One morning, while sitting in church and wearing earplugs, he suddenly noticed that everything had changed.
What followed was a perfect storm of some of the most challenging tinnitus symptoms:
- Extremely high-pitched tinnitus (12 kHz)
- Multiple tones
- Sound reactivity
- Intermittent, on-and-off tinnitus
- Panic, depression, and resurfacing PTSD and agoraphobia
One of the most difficult aspects was the high frequency.
When tinnitus exists above the normal range of everyday sound (roughly above 8kHz), it becomes much harder to mask or blend into the environment.
Combined with reactivity and unpredictability, it quickly became overwhelming.
Topics We Cover in This Video
- What severe reactive tinnitus is like
- Why high-pitched tinnitus is especially challenging
- How intermittent tinnitus creates emotional instability
- The psychological spiral that keeps people stuck
- Panic, agoraphobia and PTSD
- The breakthrough that changed everything
- How the brain learns to feel safe again
- How and why reactivity often fades naturally
- How Jeremy habituated in only 2 months
The Downward Spiral:
Like so many tinnitus sufferers, Jeremy didn’t just struggle with the sound itself.
He was terrified it would be permanent – that this was his new normal. He felt completely powerless. He didn’t know how he was going to function, continue working, or be present for his wife and young daughter.
The intermittent nature of his tinnitus made things even harder.
Some days, it would disappear entirely. Other days, it would come back just as strong, or worse – louder than ever before.
This kind of emotional whiplash can be incredibly destabilizing.
It reinforces a powerful (but incorrect) belief: “I can only be okay when the sound is gone.”
But this is a trap. And it isn’t actually true.
The First Breakthrough:
Jeremy was in a dark place when we first connected, but things quickly began to change.
Within two weeks, Jeremy noticed something surprising while driving to work in his truck. He had woken with loud tinnitus that day and it was reacting to the sound of the engine.
But he realized he felt completely calm. Peaceful.
This was a defining moment.
Because it revealed something that most people don’t realize at first: You don’t need silence to feel okay.
Once that becomes possible, everything starts to change.
Unexpected Progress Along the Way:
Over the next two months, Jeremy experienced rapid progress.
As his nervous system began to settle, several changes happened naturally:
- Reactivity faded (without requiring active desensitization work)
- He began enjoying music again
- He became noticeably more present with his family
- His tinnitus fluctuated in less distressing ways and started to seem quieter
- He felt hopeful again and increasingly confident in his ability to cope.
Most importantly though, he started having good moments, and then good days, even when his tinnitus was loud.
Life Now:
In just two short months, Jeremy reached full habituation and found lasting relief.
He describes his life in a way that might be hard to believe if you’re struggling right now:
“It’s better than before tinnitus.”
He still hears it occasionally, but it no longer matters.
His attention naturally moves away from it within seconds.
It doesn’t trigger fear. It doesn’t control his attention. It doesn’t impact his quality of life.
And in his own words:
“If there were a cure today, I wouldn’t need it.”
Final Thoughts:
If you’re in the middle of this right now – especially if you’re dealing with:
- Reactive tinnitus
- High-pitched sounds
- A recent spike or relapse
I want you to remember this: There is hope. And there is way forward!
Your tinnitus may not disappear.
But your brain can change, your reaction can change, and your life can feel normal again.
