Today, I am excited to share another incredible success story, and for you all to meet Stefano.
This past February, Stefano was walking to his car in Owings Mills, Maryland, when his next-door neighbor fired a high-caliber rifle shot nearby.
The sound hit Stefano’s right ear full force, causing an acoustic trauma. Almost instantly, he felt fullness and pressure in his ear which triggered panic and fear. Stefano quickly sought medical attention, and within a few days, the fullness had improved.
But then everything changed.
The Onset of Tinnitus and Sound Sensitivity
About a week later, Stefano developed highly fluctuating, multi-sound tinnitus, dysacusis (distorted sound perception), and phonophobia (intense fear of sound). Over time, his symptoms worsened, and he began to experience hyperacusis as well.
When I first met Stefano, he was struggling with intense anxiety and depression and described feeling like he was going through an existential crisis.
A Turning Point Toward Recovery
Over several months of working together, Stefano experienced a full recovery. His tinnitus is now much quieter, his dysacusis has fully resolved, and he is no longer afraid of or sensitive to sound.
In the interview, we discuss:
- The acoustic trauma that changed his life
- The ENT experience that made his symptoms worse
- The incredible pain and grief of losing silence
- How avoiding sound led Stefano to develop hyperacusis
- The specific protocols we used for tinnitus habituation and sound desensitization
- How Stefano reduced hypervigilance to sound
- How focusing on tinnitus during meditation changed everything
- The Rewiring Tinnitus Relief Project brainwave entrainment audio album and it’s powerful effect on his progress
- The science of brainwave entrainment
- The nature of acoustic traumas
- How Stefano restored a completely peaceful experience of silence
- So much more!
Final Thoughts:
Stefano’s story is proof that full recovery is possible, even after severe acoustic trauma. With the right tools and guidance, it’s possible to reduce fear, restore peace, and find lasting relief.
